Tapping Into Your Drumming Intuition

There’s a kid’s game called random lines, where you take a piece of paper and draw a line anywhere on the page. Then, you pass it to the next person, and they draw another line connected to the first, and it’s passed back and forth. It only takes a few strokes to start taking on unexpected shapes, like when you stare at clouds and suddenly see a dragon. On the drums, one movement flows into the next, we allow our inner navigator to take over. It’s a balance of letting go and tuning in to the signal, not trying to control, but to guide. You hear that sound in your head, you feel the emotion of the idea, and your body merges into the sound without the mental effort of solving a puzzle or cracking an equation.
