Saturn Four-Piece Rock Shell Pack Resonance appears to be an essential element of almost every component of the Saturn SR529XU Rock architecture. With a focus on warm and robust tones, these drums sound explosive and articulate in every application—whether that’s under the scrutiny of studio microphones or perceived by the ears of humans on stages, rehearsal spaces, and in the home. Mapex sent a Rock kit in a glorious teal-blue-fade finish with all hardware and a Mapex Black Panther snare to facilitate our tests. The four-piece shell pack includes a 18×22 bass drum, 7×10 and 8×12 rack toms, and a 14×16 floor tom. By the way, although they weren’t part of the review, I should mention that the Mapex Falcon boom stands, Armory snare stand, and Falcon two-leg hi-hat stand are incredibly robust and move into position as smoothly as Irish dairy butter.
