Tif “Teddy” Lamson: The Rhythm Made Her Do it

Tif “Teddy” Lamson is different from many of the drummers that appear in Modern Drummer. She is a multi-instrumentalist and a songwriter that happened to choose the drums as her main instrument. She is walking in the singing-drumming-songwriting footsteps of Levon Helm, Karen Carpenter, Dave Grohl, Phil Collins, Stan Lynch, and many others. Her voice resonates with wisdom akin to her present employer Shania Twain, and her drumming mantra is “space is the place.” Tif learned the rhythmic ropes in her family’s church band in South Louisiana. She earned her stripes co-leading the successful band Givers (Glassnote Records,) and served as a Music Director at New Orleans’ innovative Music Box Village for electro-queer icon Peaches.
