“Good practice is fluid and adaptable, it mirrors nature.” The IREC practice model (Modern Drummer Dec. ’22) is when we use the four practice pockets of Intuition, Reps, Edges, and Celebration to get more out of the time we have behind the kit. What the IREC practice model isn’t, is a rigid model of practice. We’re all different, with individual dreams and goals. Any practice model that can’t flow like water is a failure. Every day is different, you are even different from the “you” of yesterday! Even if you can only find three minutes of practice, as long as you pick up the sticks and connect with your favorite music, you’ll go to bed knowing you got 1% better.
