Have Fun Not Knowing…

Not knowing something hurts. Who actually wants to sound bad on the drums? When our identity gets wrapped up in our endeavours, missing the mark makes us feel worthless. This is because when going into new territory, we go through what’s called the ‘taste gap’. We’re drawn to certain drumming because we know what we like, and we’re chasing that sound. But at the same time, we have the fine taste to know that what we’re playing simply isn’t that good … yet. It’s trying to come out, it has the ambition to be good, but it just hasn’t crystallized yet. In the meantime, our ear for drumming that attracted us to the game in the first place hasn’t changed.
