June 16, 1948-August 22, 2022 Fredy Studer was a drumming and musical renaissance man. He was a musician that played jazz and interpreted 20th Century Classical music. He was a stalwart of the European jazz scene, a bandleader and a sideman, and a key member of Paiste’s Sound Development team. With Paiste, he was instrumental in the development of new Paiste sounds from the 1970s through the 2000s. As a bandleader he founded the creative group Om. As a sideman he worked with true legends, including: Joe Henderson, Miroslav Vitous, Franco Ambrosetti, and George Gruntz. Studer was a frequent collaborator with other drummers and percussionists such as: Paul Motian, Nana Vasconcelos, Pierre Favre, Dom Um Romao, David Friedman, Jack DeJohnette, and Robyn Schulkowsky.
