Upon hearing the news about Rush’s 50 Something Tour, I was instantly happy for Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson; they deserve to be out there playing the music that they love and created with Neil Peart. I think Neil would want his music to continue to be heard, live, and in living colour. The fact that Geddy and Alex chose Anika Nilles to take Rush’s music forward is a wonderful and welcome breath of fresh air in our musical and drumming community. When I heard about the choice of Anika, I was reminded of Neil’s admiration of Keith Moon. Keith Moon and Neil Peart were polar opposites as drummers, but Keith inspired Neil to develop his drumming voice. Along the way, Neil encountered other influences as well.
