It’s a subject that comes up often in my interviews— Being part of a community or a scene, and I can’t stress its importance enough! All drummers (should) know about how supportive the drum community is for one another. It’s a unique brotherhood that (in my opinion) is not replicated by any other group of instrumentalists. If you have your doubts, go to one of the many drum shows around the world, or read an interview in Modern Drummer, and become instantly convinced. We drummers are a different breed. Hopefully everyone out there has a “drum buddy.” That might be another drummer, drum teacher, or an employee at a local music store. Being an active part in the drum community is important.
