Dry and funky, just like the region for which they’re named. Turkish Cymbals is—not surprisingly—a Turkish company that fabricates a wide array of contemporary and traditional-sounding cymbals utilizing a combination of ancient and modern processes. Each instrument starts from a proprietary molten bronze alloy that’s poured into a mold, rolled, hammered, and lathed into its final form. Some Turkish cymbals end up looking like classic old Ks, while others are processed in more creative and unusual ways to evoke entirely new textures. According to the company’s website, every Turkish cymbal is designed to stand alone as a unique, one-of-a-kind instrument while also possessing consistent sonic qualities within each series that carry through from the smallest splash to the largest ride.
