As we were assembling this month’s issue of Modern Drummer, I discovered a hidden theme. It was not obvious to me until just now. It turns out that this month’s issue features four generations of drummers from four different countries. How cool is that? Our drumming elder statesman is Mikkey Dee from Sweden, and his stories of touring the world in Motörhead and Scorpions are very entertaining and educational. Descending in age, the next drummer is educator Andy Gander from Australia. Andy’s commitment to advanced rhythm is contagious, and his study of self-development is inspiring. Michal Miskiewicz is the next youngest drummer in this month’s issue, Michal is one of Poland’s top jazz drummers. His trio just did a week of shows with saxophonist Joe Lovano at New York’s famed Village Vanguard.
