Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

Both, Dave Elitch and Nick Buda uttered this phrase in their interviews this month, and it’s an important one. The older readers of Modern Drummer probably know what this phrase means and have heard it a million times. But the younger readers might be confused. This phrase means that someone should not concentrate all their time, efforts, and resources into one place, because if you do, you run the risk of losing all your time, efforts, and resources. In modern terms this is called diversification, and it applies to musicians and our careers as much as it does to financial planning and investing. For us drummers, it means not putting all our time into one musical project, style, or path. Many of today’s greats have done this.
