Sound Design Part 2: The Microcosm Effects Pedal

In Part 2 of this Sound Design Series, we will explore the use of hardware effects pedals as a means of processing drum and percussion sounds. In Part 1 of this series, we focused on computer-based effects plugins used in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Computer based DAW’s along with music production software like Logic or Cubase can be steep in terms of price and learning curve. Therefore, in this month’s column, we will look at a simpler and more cost-effective alternative. All the video clips below are recorded on my secondary hybrid drum rig. This setup is intentionally built for speed and simplicity. I want the least amount of “friction” when it comes to creativity.
