Lenny Kravitz has played drums, programmed the drum parts, or created the loops on all of his songs for the last 35 years with only two exceptions. He is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter walking in the tradition of Stevie Wonder and Prince who both played drums on many of their own records. It should come as no surprise that the upcoming Lenny Kravitz record called Blue Electric Light (due out on May 24th) features even more of Lenny’s in the pocket drumming skills, as does his new single called “Human.” As drummers, we are usually working with songwriters and performers who want “something” from us. However, determining exactly what that “something” is, can often be confusing.
