Don’t HIT Your Drums!

What? You mean I shouldn’t hit my drums?!? Some drummers can’t wait to grab their sticks and start flailing away, beating the drums like a punching bag. This gets old fast, and only leads to a string of bad habits. We all know the cliche of ‘hitting your drums’, but let’s question the words we throw around with more awareness. Words have power and plant the seeds of our actions. We don’t hit our friends, and we don’t hit our drums. ‘Hitting’ is to hurt and has no place in drumming. We all learned as kids that hitting is mean spirited. It may look like that’s what’s happening, but the drummers we love aren’t doing this, playing that way only destroys equipment and bodies.
