Buddy Rich is the greatest and most influential drummer ever, but he had many sides. People, like diamonds, have many facets. Nearly 40 years after his death, more recordings keep being released that continue to show his many sides. Buddy Rich Big Band recordings were often centered around the drums, but there are many small group recordings that show a different side of Buddy’s artistry. In 2023, Trios was released to show an important side of Buddy. The tunes are the trio features that occurred during Buddy’s big band concerts when the band would take a break while Buddy, the pianist, and the bassist would play as a piano trio.
