The Social Groove of Change

Playing and creating music is a social activity. Both of this month’s feature interviews state the importance of playing music with people. It’s an important step in becoming a musician (not “just” a drummer.) Whether you are making beats with a DJ, shedding blast beats with a bassist, improvising jazz duets with a saxophonist, performing with a dance class, helping a songwriter workshop some new tunes, or playing time for your eight-year-old niece as she practices the trombone. The importance of playing music with other people cannot be over-stated, and it’s FUN!!! Thankfully, most of the states in the US, and Australia have recently restricted children’s use of smart phones and social media, and hopefully many will follow suit.
