Join The Winery Dogs drummer and Modern Drummer‘s May 2023 cover star Mike Portnoy as he gives us a rundown of his drum kit. Portnoy is currently on tour with The Winery Dogs, and in typical Portnoy fashion, his kit is pretty comprehensive. Portnoy plays on a signature Tama mirage kit, a smaller version of a Tama kit he used 15 years ago — where Portnoy has often included all the bells and whistles available for his previous rigs, he’s opted for his current kit to be more compact and hybrid.

In addition to using Tama drums, Portnoy is also using a barrage of Sabian cymbals, including multiple splashes, two different stack cymbals, and two chinas. Portnoy also plays with black ProMark 420x drum sticks with a custom Winery Dogs logo.
