Yamaha drums have made a huge impact on the drumming world since its inception about 60 years ago. From the get-go, the Recording Custom kits were always a top pick for recording drummers and performers alike. But for a period, Yamaha did not sell these storied drums, now they are releasing reissued and newly designed offerings in this legendary line of drums. Modern Drummer received a beautiful Surf Green, six-piece kit and a secondary natural Birch snare to check out and see what we thought. All the standard hardware, including the triple flanged hoops, snare throw-off and butt, are chrome plated. I found a major improvement I thought was important to mention: the high-tension lugs.
