Where does drum recording begin? The fundamentals haven’t changed; however, Yamaha’s Electronic Acoustic Drum (EAD) concept has quietly reshaped how drummers approach recording. With the introduction of the EAD10, capturing a full kit sound quickly and musically, without the demands of a multi-mic setup, became a practical reality. It wasn’t about replacing the way drums are recorded, but about reducing the time and effort it takes to get from setup to something that sounds complete. With the EAD50, that idea expands. It builds on the immediacy that defined the original concept, while opening the door to more advanced workflows. This article marks the first installment in a series that David Frangioni and I will be developing together and will be focused on exploring the EAD50 from multiple angles.
