For this month’s Teacher’s Forum, we present another snare drum duet from Modern Drummer founder Ron Spagnardi’s book Snare Drum Duets. This piece is in ¾ and integrates a lot of flam and flam rudiments. The ¾ will nudge a drummer out of his (or her) comfort zone just enough to be very beneficial. It might be a good idea to prepare for this one by really cleaning up and sharpening your flams and flam rudiments first. There is a nice mix of unison, question and answer, and complimentary parts between the two parts of this duet. As always, the dynamics really make this come to life. Duets are a nice way to get used to playing with other musicians. Have fun and start slow.
