In the world of cymbal makers, Amedia is a relatively young name, but its roots run deep in the centuries-old tradition of Turkish cymbal making. Founded in Istanbul in 2005, the company continues to build its cymbals by hand using traditional methods. Drummer Felipe Torres, whose credits include Davy Jones, The Monkees, David Cassidy, Popa Chubby, Prong, and Chubby Checker, first crossed paths with Amedia at NAMM more than 16 years ago. A pair of 15” Dervish hi-hats stopped him in his tracks and began a relationship that would eventually lead to his own signature series Amedia cymbals. The line took shape gradually through years of touring, testing, and back-and-forth with Amedia. Each cymbal was refined over time to meet Torres’ needs behind the kit, whether he was playing a quieter gig or competing with loud guitars. Amedia sent us a freshly made set from Turkey for this month’s Product Close-Up, including 15” hi-hats, 18”, 19”, and 20” crashes, and a 21” ride. Advertisement […]
