If you’ve been following along, this is my third trip into Yamaha’s Electronic Acoustic Drum world. In September 2024 I took a hands-on look at the EAD10, the little box that convinced a lot of us that a great drum sound didn’t have to start with a pile of microphones. Earlier this year I spent time with the flagship EAD50, which blew the ceiling off that concept with mic inputs, individual outputs, and enough routing to handle a drummer’s own monitoring, playback, and front-of-house feeds. That left an obvious gap in the middle of the family, and Yamaha has now filled it with the EAD20. The EAD idea is simple: capture the whole kit with one sensor on the bass drum, then blend in effects and electronic sounds.
