Four Different Collector Covers Honor the Legend The Modern Drummer staff wanted to do something ultra-special to celebrate the life and artistry of Charlie Watts, and we decided that a single cover—however great it might look—simply would not do. We decided to commit to four different covers—a “Bigger Bang,” so to speak! Then, the worrying started. Should we pick Watts images from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and 2000s? Would our readers prefer to see classic studio shots, four moments captured onstage, or studio and live photos? Should we make one of the covers a shot of his final Gretsch touring kit? Who could we even ask to provide four cover shots? The answer was right in front of us.
