Tonda’s PanAfrican Kit

This month’s Kit of the Month is Tonda Prochazka’s PanAfrican drum set. It is a vintage Gretsch Stop Sign Badge 20,12,14,16 Rosewood finished kit with two extra kpalongos, a dun dun and “banana bells” from Ghana. Tonda has been interested in incorporating genuine African drums into his drum set since 2014. While studying at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic he got in touch with several drummers from Ghana, from whom he got these beautiful instruments. This year he is going to Accra for a whole month to study with the masters in person. Apart from the vintage kit and African drums Tonda is using modern Gretsch snares in 8×14 Maple and 5×14 COB.
