Hello, everyone. I hope your summer has been going as well as it can be. Welcome to another special issue of Modern Drummer. Come on, you have to admit the last few issues have been pretty amazing. (Thank you, MD team.) The April 2021 issue saw us on national TV for four nights on Late Night with Seth Meyers, May took a deep dive into Dave Weckl’s artistry, June showcased Nandi Bushell as our youngest cover artist ever, and July saw us on Entertainment Tonight, making history with Sheila E. as the first woman inducted into the MD Hall of Fame. (Congrats again to the “Queen of Percussion!”) The August issue celebrates the 50th anniversary of “The Sound of Philadelphia” with session-drumming legend Earl Young, who is also the leader of what many call one of the most popular disco groups of all-time, the Trammps.
