Hey, Modern Drummer! I’m really stoked to be able to contribute here on the MD site. My name is Andrew Cook, and I’m the drummer and most recent addition to the band A Rocket To The Moon. Our new album, On Your Side, was out on October 13 on Fueled By Ramen Records. The day after the album dropped, we hit the road with Boys Like Girls and Cobra Starship for a full U.S. tour that takes us through the end of November. I’m really excited about this tour because we will be surrounded by some great friends, and I’ll get to watch some great drummers every night.

Every day I will have the pleasure of studying with my good friend Spencer Peterson, who’ll be playing for VersaEmerge, the opening band on the tour. Spencer is an incredible drummer who grew up playing in church in Atlanta, and it shows in his drumming. I can’t wait to learn from him and nerd out on drums on a daily basis. You’ll be able to find us at any given moment geeking out to YouTube videos of Thomas Pridgen, Ronald Bruner Jr., etc. I’ll also have the pleasure of watching John from BLG play every night. He’s a great drummer and teacher who I’ve known for many years since we both came up on the Boston scene over five years ago.

As for the new album, unfortunately I wasn’t able to contribute to the record. The album was made just prior to my joining the band, with the drum duties being handled by former drummer Loren Brinton. Loren did a great job on the album, and I’m stoked to be stepping in and taking the reins on drums. These songs are a blast to play live. For the tour, I’ll be taking my newest SJC kit on the road with me, in an attempt to turn some heads with its monstrous 16×30 kick drum! I love this kit so much, especially because the wrap is a one-of-a-kind floral pattern that I designed with help from my buddy Brad Filip, designer extraordinaire. If you want to talk shop, come find me at a show and say hi! I love talking about drums, or just music in general, and we’re always floating around our shows looking to meet new people. The merch table is usually a good place to start looking if you want to find me.

I just want to take the chance real quick to thank the amazing companies that have been kind enough to make me a part of the family: SJC drums, Vater sticks, and Zildjian cymbals. These companies are the best at what they do, and I’m thrilled to be working with them. Thank you to MD for the chance to contribute here on the site.
