Three of the World’s Top Drummers to Perform at the Salem YMCA

The Salem, Massachusetts YMCA will host a one-of-a-kind performance and student clinic with three top professional drummers: Dave DiCenso (Josh Groban), Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean), and James Murphy (Blue Man Group). The Drums for Funds concert will take place on June 10 from 7 pm until 9:30 pm in the Ames Hall inside the Salem YMCA at 290 Essex Street.

The three drummers will play solo sets as well as a trio performance. A Q&A and clinic session with local students will follow. Students are strongly encouraged to attend.

This concert is the second of the new Salem YMCA Concert Series, with all proceeds benefitting the Salem YMCA’s new music studio and programming. The first concert in the series in May 2014 featured four incredible local bands who performed free of charge to support the Salem Y and its music program.

Local band the Dejas were among those to perform and have been instrumental in helping to organize these concerts and kicking off efforts to create a comprehensive music program for kids and adults of all ages. Advertisement

“We are thrilled with the first two performances scheduled and thank the Dejas for all of their help and support,” stated Jason Silva, executive director of the Salem YMCA. “It has been a tremendous community effort to launch the music program. The purpose of the concerts is to help provide us with the resources to open the doors to the program to everyone that wants to participate.”

The Y’s newly renovated music studio will provide free instruction on instruments to Salem youth and teens, as well as provide the opportunity to record in a state of the art recording studio.

All of the profits from this concert series will directly support the music program and Salem youth.
