Ron Spagnardi wrote a wonderful book called Snare Drum Duets: 25 Duets for Two Snare Drummers. It offers a selection of 25 challenging duets that range in difficulty from relatively simple to more complex. This month’s duet will inspire and help you to get your flams together. Don’t be scared off by all the sixteenth notes, look at the suggested tempo (mm=89,) it’s meant to be played slow. The metronome marking above each duet indicates the suggested speed at which the material should be performed. However, the tempo can be adjusted up or down in accordance with the ability of the players. Obviously precise execution and perfect timing are essential on the part of both players when performing the material in duet format.
