Silent Drum Practice – Part Two, Who is Leading Now?

Welcome to part two of my series on practicing drums without drums! This exercise can be done anywhere. Play the following exercise with your hands on your thighs or with sticks on the pad, depending on whether you are at home or on the go. Set your metronome to 8th notes and start at a tempo of 60 bpm for the 8th notes. Play continuous sixteenth notes with both hands, starting with your leading hand (right hand for right-handed players, left hand for left-handed players.) Then pause for a certain number of beats with your weaker hand and continue playing only with your leading hand. Afterwards, insert a certain number of notes with the other hand (your weaker hand) again.
