As I was flying high above the clouds en route from Reykjavik, Iceland to the USA. I’d only heard of Reykjavik when I was a younger man in connection with the summit held there in 1986 between the United States of America as represented by President Ronald Reagan and the Soviet Union as represented by Premier Mikhail Gorbachev. The purpose of the summit was to limit the number of nuclear weapons pointed at each nation by the other. While the summit was not immediately effective towards that goal, it is considered to have been the turning point in the Cold War. In any event, Reykjavik was that place on that piece of land that’s sometimes visible when flying from Europe to home — I did a lot of that in the late 1980’s, 90’s, and beyond.
