Karen Carpenter Drum Solo (Video)

This is a sequence from the Carpenters’ 1976 television special. Karen, who possessed one of the greatest voices in pop history, as evidenced in hits like “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “For All We Know,” and “Superstar,” was a drummer since high school, and even played on early Carpenters recordings. As the band rose to stardom, however, her abilities on drums were forced to take a back seat to her role as a singer. Widely seen appearances like this one surely influenced a great many young girls to begin playing the drums. Sadly, Carpenter passed away in 1983 due to the long-term effects of anorexia nervosa.
