Excerpted from the July 1982 issue The single biggest influence in Martin Chambers’ onstage attitude and playing considerations was Keith Moon. “He was a very good player and a very talented free player, much like Mitch Mitchell. But the thing that Keith Moon had was his unbelievable ability to be a showman at the same time, which, to me, is the most important thing. The Pretenders are at the point where we are starting to have to play bigger gigs. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t matter what size the place is, but when we’re doing the bigger gigs, it’s the people in the back that are the most important to me.
