October 2014 Spotify Playlist
Our October 2014 Spotify Playlist kicks off with some great live cuts, including cover star Ian Paice’s famous solo vehicle, “The Mule,” from Deep Purple’s seminal in-concert recording, Made in Japan. We stay in the land of the rising sun for track two, a live take of “Elevate,” the lead-off track from Mike Portnoy and the Winery Dogs’ Unleashed in Japan 2013. Next up is Ben Thatcher and Royal Blood’s Spotify Sessions performance of their break-out song, “Out of the Black” (look for more with Thatcher in a future issue of MD), and Tal Bergman’s kaleidoscopic performance on Rock Candy Funk Party’s “Octopus-E,” recorded at New York City’s Iridium club. We end where we began, with the legendary Ian Paice on the fill-tastic title track from Deep Purple’s classic 1974 album Burn–but not before some fascinating side trips, including OOIOO’s “Don Ah,” Shudder to Think’s rule-breaking cover of the Atlanta Rhythm Section nugget “So Into You,” and Rudy Royston’s mercurial “303,” from his debut solo album of the same name. You can start listening right here.
