VIDEO: The Word Alive’s Luke Holland: “94th St.??? Playalong

On Wednesday, Luke Holland of the Word Alive launched a contest in conjunction with Drum Workshop, Meinl, PDP, Vater, Evans, Drum Channel, and Alternative Press magazine. Drummers can enter to win a complete drum setup by recording themselves playing along to the track “94th St.” from the band’s brand-new album, Real. Modern Drummer asked Luke to offer some tips to navigate the track.

“‘94th St.’ may not be the fastest track on the album by any means,” says Luke, “but for me it was the most difficult to track. There are a lot of linear patterns and fills, limb isolation, and dynamics. A few parts you will have to watch out for are the linear fills at 0:18 and 0:30, the long linear fill at 1:23, the limb independence at 1:47, and the dynamic control in the breakdown at 2:32.”
