Rush is releasing its first new recordings since being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year. The Clockwork Angels Tour triple-CD and Blu-ray/DVD packages are drawn from Rush’s American Airlines Arena show in Dallas, Texas, this past November. The eleven-month Clockwork Angels tour crossed North America twice and ventured overseas to Europe in support of the band’s 2012 studio release of the same name. The CD set is being released via Anthem/Roadrunner Records, while the DVDs are available from Anthem/Zoe Vision/Rounder.
The set list, heavy on Rush classics like “Tom Sawyer,” “The Spirit Of Radio,” and “2112” and ’80s-era favorites like “The Analog Kid,” “Territories,” and “Subdivisions,” also includes reworked arrangements of songs like “YYZ” and “Red Sector A” featuring the Clockwork Angels String Ensemble. This marks the first time the trio ever brought additional musicians on the road with them. To showcase their latest studio release, the set also features nine tracks off Clockwork Angels. Other highlights include tracks rarely performed and never before recorded live, “The Body Electric” and “Middletown Dreams,” as well as three Neil Peart drum solos.
The Blu-ray version of Clockwork Angels Tour includes a twenty-five-minute tour documentary featuring interviews with all three band members as well as behind-the-scenes footage. Other special features include a trio of humorous shorts created specifically for the tour, as well as interviews and outtakes captured during their filming. Additional filmed sketches and a rare soundcheck performance of perennial favorite “Limelight” round out the exclusive offerings.
Check out Neil Peart’s “Where’s My Thing?/Here It Is!” drum solo, one of three included on Clockwork Angels Tour. For more information, including details about a limited-edition deluxe set of the release, go to rush.com.
