2013 Regina Drum Festival

2013 Regina Drum Festival

The third annual Regina Drum Festival will take place on September 28 and 29 at the Exchange and the Club in Regina, Saskatchewan, which is located at 2431 8th Avenue.

“We have put together a lineup of players this year that might be the biggest drum event in all of North America for 2013,” says organizer and founder Jayson Brinkworth. “The weekend will be very diverse musically with everything from metal, jazz, New Orleans, Brazilian, and pop to funk, R&B, rock, Latin, and world music.”

Saturday, September 13 will feature Mark Kelso (Gino Vannelli, Holly Cole), Periphery’s Matt Halpern (2013 Readers Poll winner in the metal category), Stanton Moore (Galactic, John Scofield), and Aaron Spears (Usher).

Sunday, September 14 will feature Emmanuelle Capplette (Andy Summers) and world-renowned multi-percussionist Richie Gajate Garcia (Sting, Phil Collins, Tito Puente). The night wraps up with a performance by Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), who will be joined by the RDF house band. Advertisement

Along with the ninety-minute clinic performances by each artist, there will be a tradeshow with music industry booths, the Vintage Drum Expo, Stickman Drum Corner, a Fastest Hands Competition, and much more. Master classes will be held off-site with Matt Halpern and Richie Gajate Garcia.

Tickets are $55 for a full weekend laminate or $30 for a day pass. The nearby Quality Hotel is onboard as the host hotel for the event. “They gave us an amazing rate for people from out of town that would like to take part,” says Brinkman.

Festival tickets are available at Long and McQuade Music in Regina and Saskatoon and Boomtown Drums in Regina, with more locations to be announced soon. Weekend passes are also available online at www.ticketedge.ca. Advertisement
