Bonzo’s Birthday Bash Scheduled for May 31 at the House of Blues in L.A.
Bonzo’s Birthday Bash: A Tribute Concert to John Henry Bonham of Led Zeppelin, will be presented this coming Thursday, May 31, at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, California. (May 31 was Bonham’s actual birthday.) Show organizer and Whistesnake drummer Brian Tichy, who had previously staged three Bonzo: The Groove Remains the Same concerts, says, “When I first thought of this, the idea seemed too cool and simple not to try—get a John Bonham replica drumset, complete with gong and timpani, up front, center stage, and have each drummer perform their favorite Led Zep song with a house band. It’s such a unique night, seeing how all these great drummers approach the same drumset and make it their own.”
Among the drummers participating in the event are Steven Adler (Adler), Seven Antonopoulos (Opiate for the Masses, Leaves’ Eyes), Carmine Appice (Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge, Cactus), Vinny Appice (Kill Devil Hill), Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot), Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), Fred Coury (Cinderella), Jimmy D’Anda (Bulletboys), Ray Luzier (Korn), Khurt Maier (Salty Dog), Mike Portnoy (Adrenaline Mob, Flying Colors), Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper), Brian Tichy, Joe Travers (Zappa Plays Zappa), and Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio). House band the Moby Dicks includes Michael Devin (Whitesnake) on bass, Stephen LeBlanc (Jason Bonham’s Led Zep Experience) on keyboards, Keith St. John (Montrose) on vocals, Brian Tichy on guitar and drums, and Brent Woods (Brentwood Forest) on lead and rhythm guitars.
