Rock & Jazz Clinic: Brush Workshop, Part 1

Rock & Jazz Clinic

Brush Workshop

Part 1: Circular Motions

by Florian Alexandru-Zorn

A goal of mine has been to play with brushes and think not in terms of patterns but in a more musical way, transferring all the note values, rudiments, and stickings I already knew with drumsticks over to my brush playing. In this series of articles, we will explore some of these concepts in an effort to inspire you to begin assembling your own ideas for brush playing.

The following video explains much of what I covered in part one of my Brush Workshop series, which focuses on basic circular patterns and ways to play accents within those patterns.

Be sure to check out the complete article in the October issue for additional insight and advice.
