Guitar Gods & MD Applaud Carmine Appice's Guitar Zeus CD
Fuel Records released the Guitar Zeus album Conquering Heroes by legendary drummer Carmine Appice this past August 25. The double-disc compilation of tracks from Guitar Zeus releases showcases many world-renowned rock six-stringers, including Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big), Yngwie Malmsteen, Neal Schon (Journey), Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs), Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson), Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), and, along with Appice in the core band, bassist Tony Franklin (the Firm, Blue Murder) and vocalist/keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Kelly Keeling (Blue Murder, Michael Schenker Group, Trans-Siberian Orchestra).
“As soon as I heard the track ‘Nobody Knew (Black and White House),’ I thought it had a very haunting quality to it, evoking the ’70s in some ways perhaps, but with a very modern slant,” says Queen guitarist Brian May, who played on the 1995 song, which is now part of Conquering Heroes. “I also found the backing track itself very powerful and appealing, driven by Carmine’s very recognizable style, so I was keen to play on the track straight away, despite being incredibly snowed under with work at the time!”
Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora says, “I’ve always been a fan of Carmine’s, and it was great playing with him and Tony. What a great rhythm section. I loved the song ‘Gonna Rain,’ and I had a great time playing on this track.”
