Premier Launches British-Made Modern Classic Drumset

British drum company Premier has released a selection of three-piece Modern Classic drumset that look retro, produce clean tones, and have a modern build quality.

The origins of the Modern Classic date back to 2001, when it was launched as a dedicated snare range inspired by classic drum designs. The all-new Modern Classic drumset draws on the concept of the original snare drums, and are the result of a creative collaboration between master craftsman Keith Keough and legendary British drummer Steve White (shown in photos).

Exclusively hand-crafted at Premier’s Custom Works in England, each Modern Classic drumset shares several key features, including birch/mahogany shells (4.5mm 8-ply toms and 6mm 11-ply bass drums), low-mass solid-brass tube lugs, single-flange solid-steel hoops, 30-degree round-over bearing edges, and Remo USA Coated Ambassador drumheads. Modern Classic kits are offered as three-piece shell packs: the Bebop 18 and Bebop 20 come with 8×12 and 14×14 toms and either a 14×18 or 14×20 bass drum, respectively. The Concert Master 22 is made up of an 8×13” rack tom, a 14×16 floor tom, and a 14×22 bass drum.

All Modern Classic models are available in either natural mahogany or bird’s-eye maple. The finishes are protected by a hand-applied satin oil and are complemented with contrasting wooden bass drum hoops. The Modern Classic finishes are produced as limited runs and will change seasonally.

In addition, there are two matching Modern Classic snare drums (sold separately): a 4.5×14 and a 5.5×14. These snares feature a three-position Dunnett R7C throw-off and 7.5mm 14-ply birch/mahogany shells. Advertisement
