Michael Shrieve Drummer Blog

Greetings, Modern Drummer readers! I’m writing to inform you about a new interview show that I have launched on an exciting Internet–only radio station called Jet City Stream. My show is called “Notes From The Field,” and I will be interviewing musicians, authors, chefs, filmmakers, and other interesting people. It just started a month ago, and so far I have interviewed drummers Matt Chamberlain and drum ’n’ bass phenomenon Kevin Sawka, and I recently aired a wonderful exclusive interview with Rush drummer, Neil Peart.

For Neil’s interview, it was the first time that we had met, and I was completely taken aback by this amazing man. We talked not only about drummers and drumming, but also life on the road, books, travel, and how to grow as human being.

My talk with Matt Chamberlain was filled with examples of him speaking specifically about how he created drum tracks for artists like the Wallflowers, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, David Bowie, and Critter’s Buggin’, complete with audio of those tracks. Advertisement

If you are not yet familiar with KJ Sawka, who is now playing with the bands Pendulum and Conspirator, well, once you hear him, you only want to hear more.

There are other interviews with author Ellen Forney and Jeremy Schultz, whose company creates t-shirts for bands and enables fans to buy one, as well as download the band’s music, with their smartphones.

Please join me every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM PST for “Notes From the Field” on www.jetcitystream.com. All of the interviews are archived too, so you can listen to them at your leisure.
