Traditionally, drum companies spend a great deal of time and money on product development, and then spend even more time and money telling drummers what to like – and what to play. But what if that paradigm were turned completely on its head? What if drummers could choose which cymbal models manufacturers should make? Well – that’s exactly what Sabian did.
Sabian Vault product specialists were asked to develop 12 exciting new cymbal models. The cymbals were secretly shipped to a studio in California, where a group of top Sabian endorsers – including Mike Portnoy, Dave Weckl, Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, and Ray Luzier – were filmed playing them over a period of two days. Viewers were able to watch this fascinating video online and could vote to eliminate one cymbal each week, for 8 weeks.
And the winners are:
HHX Click Hats
AAX Stadium Ride
HHX Zen China
AAX Aero Crash
