Ginger Baker Coming To the Iridium in NYC

Drummer Ginger Baker Coming To the Iridium in NYC

Iconic British drummer Ginger Baker will be performing at the Iridium in New York City this coming October 9 – 13. Baker came to prominence in the mid-’60s with the hugely influential heavy psychedelic rock group Cream, which also featured bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce and guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton. After that group broke up in 1968, Baker and Clapton joined Traffic’s Steve Winwood and Family bassist Ric Grech in another so-called supergroup, Blind Faith, which released one self-titled album in 1969. From there Baker went on to front his own bands, including Ginger Baker’s Airforce, and to perform with other groups, such as Hawkwind and Public Image Ltd. He has also collaborated with world-music giants Fela Kuti and Bill Laswell and jazz greats Charlie Haden and Bill Frisell. Recently the drummer was the subject of the documentary Beware Mr. Baker. To read an interview with the film’s director, Jay Bulger, get the May 2013 issue of Modern Drummer, available now on iTunes/iOS and Android/Amazon. Go to theiridium.com for more info.
